as rain gently falls I slip
on wet roots without falling
when the dogs’ faces turn
to look straight into my soul

~ our eyes meet in the same place ~

as a pact we once made
long before this life
to be there for each other
on this mountain trail, in the rain

  15. Oh, I love the tenderness of this poem, Xenia. I had a dog long ago, Tundgren, who I protected fiercely and who protected me with the same love. We lived in a dangerous part of town at the time and I so appreciated her protection. This poem made me smile remembering her from more than 40 years ago. Thank you.
