Puente Poetry: Forest Bathing

a blue and white whippet in winter jacket sniffing a fallen branch in the forest

the scent of earth and pine
walk with us on the trail
the flutter of a raven’s wings
in the trees above us sings

~ the song of an inner moon ~

that soothes the inner tide
and merges with outside
in breaths of peace, deep peace
and all the love we carry

Puente Poetry: Walkway to the Light

a blue and white whippet in a pink winter jacket pausing on top of wooden steps towards the beach

on the weathered wooden walkway
marram grass bursts through the slats
birds rest on the handrails
human hands no longer touch

~ structures built to help us ~

are smoothed by wind and rain
the last two years have taught us
to seek the light again
where natural kindness rises

Weekend Sky #53

Puente Poetry: Edge of Clouds

a blue and white whippet walking along the shoreline

looking above the bright light
of a low sun we see patches of blue sky
above the headland, a mixture of
violets and indigo blue

~ on the edge of clouds ~

between this world and there
where loved ones travel
with that special look in their eyes
as if they know where they are going

Puente Poetry: Soul to Soul

close up of a mature black whippet in a rain coat looking up

as rain gently falls I slip
on wet roots without falling
when the dogs’ faces turn
to look straight into my soul

~ our eyes meet in the same place ~

as a pact we once made
long before this life
to be there for each other
on this mountain trail, in the rain

Puente Poetry: Voices in the Rain

Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhain

a black whippet in a raincoat looking alert among scattered autumn leaves in the forest

All the songs are living ghosts and long for a living voice.
Brendan Kennelly (17.04.1936 – 17.10.2021)

... high in the rafters I hear the bell of her laughter, silvered and beautiful.
Máire Mhac an tSaoi (04.04.1922 – 16.10.2021)

a blue and white whippet in a raincoat on a hilly forest trail

rain falls in golden leaves, in the dark,
deep water of Loch Beinn a’ Mheadhain
the colours of pine, birch and fir are reflected

~ in the beginnings of new-found peace ~

a voice tells us the rain will stop when
we climb the steep hill while the sky clears
to hear poets and spirits mingle

Loch Beinn a' Mheadhain in autumn

Though we live in a world that dreams of ending
that always seems about to give in
something that will not acknowledge conclusion
insists that we forever begin.

Brendan Kennelly

We were very sad to hear of the passing of Irish poets Máire Mhac an tSaoi and Brendan Kennelly over the weekend and our thoughts and prayers are with their family, friends, colleagues and students at this difficult time.

Both leave behind a rich body of work and their gift to the world is treasured by many.

Wishing you all a blessed Monday and a peaceful week ahead,

with love from Eivor, Pearl and Xenia xxx

Puente Poetry: The Best of Neighbours

two whippets on the beach by a wooden post above the tidal lagoon

the seagulls from our roof
feed in the lace the waves push in,
heavy with crab for growing chicks
who will soon be the size of their parents

~ our quirky friends ~

now the best of neighbours
with tilted head and knowing blink
we head for home as the sand disappears
in a hungry sea that swallows every bar

Puente Poetry: All About the Light

a storm is silently approaching
where the crows whirl in the sky
an old man smiles behind his gate,
points across the bay and says

~ it is all about the light ~

and we love to run towards it
even on the darkest, wettest days
there are cracks in passing clouds
where smaller rays can shine

Puente Poetry: Reading the World

the day opens a new book
of sights, scents and sounds
for the eternally curious

~ or is it the other way around? ~

who is walking who on any
given day when we take turns
to guide and follow a spark
that bounces from the stars?

Assynt

scrambling through the gorge
we follow the stream and sound
of falling water, famed
in myth and legend

~ we feel a presence ~

stretching to eavesdrop
on voices that greet us
rising from the rocks with
their smiling, fleeting faces

Puente Poetry: Spirals

turning into the wood from the old
carriage route where trees breathe through
knots and leaves teaming with bird song
our inner child begins to smile

~ by a stone hopscotch spiral ~

with footprints of fairy folk,
squirrel, pine marten, hare,
badger and sika deer whose presence
we are always feeling
