Puente Poetry: Soul to Soul

close up of a blue and white whippet in a rain coat, looking up
close up of a mature black whippet in a rain coat looking up

as rain gently falls I slip
on wet roots without falling
when the dogs’ faces turn
to look straight into my soul

~ our eyes meet in the same place ~

as a pact we once made
long before this life
to be there for each other
on this mountain trail, in the rain

  1. I love how you capture Eivor’s and Pearl’s eyes — melt my heart. The image of these trees and lake are beautifully captured. Thank you for taking us there, Xenia. xxx πŸ™‚

  4. Oh, I love the tenderness of this poem, Xenia. I had a dog long ago, Tundgren, who I protected fiercely and who protected me with the same love. We lived in a dangerous part of town at the time and I so appreciated her protection. This poem made me smile remembering her from more than 40 years ago. Thank you.
