Tanka: Catching the Light

a brindle whippet on a forest trail between douglas fir and pine
a brindle whippet on a forest trail before it reaches a clearing

pebbles and cones
a brindle dog catches
the light
we marvel how one seed
can grow a whole new forest

  1. That’s why I plant my beans every year. it’s the most amazing thing that one of those beautiful beans will grow into that lovely plant that attracts hummingbirds from all over the country, then gives me beans for next year. I know it’s just how things work, but wow… Beautiful poem, Xenia. 💚🐾🐾
