We hope you all had a lovely Hogmanay, even though it would have been a bit different.
The traditional Hogmanay Ceilidh on BBC Alba was also different, with the singers and musicians linking up remotely rather than playing together in one venue.
Below is a video of one of those performances, which has a magic all of its own and unique for these times:
We wish you all a blessed and abundant New Year!
With love from Eivor, Pearl and Xenia xxx

Thank you for your lovely haiku, reminding us of the abundant gifts that a healthy ecosystem can offer us. Thank you, too, for the wonderful photos of your dogs. I agree with Arati about their eyes… Luminous! I love your dogs’ ears, too. I listened to the beautiful music as i read and re-read your blog post. Now I need to look up what Hogmanay is!

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Will and I’m glad you enjoyed the Gaelic choir and music! Hogmanay is a Scottish celebration of New Year’s Eve that often includes traditional Scottish music and Gaelic song too 🎉

I went to Wikipedia to learn more… and discovered that for 400 (!!) years Christmas was discouraged in Scotland as being too Papist/Catholic with Hogmanay being the preferred ritual during which to exchange presents, share the light, and visit friends. I also ended up with a YouTube link to THE WHITE HEATHER CLUB TV show, and then a biographical TV show about Andy Stewart… Quite a morning of exploration and education via ye olde internet — inspired by your lovely blog post!

I always enjoy your photos and poetry. This is no exception. Love that the ocean deposited gifts for Eivor and Pearl to explore.

Photos and haiku match perfectly Xenia. I trust there was no dead fish in there? I once had to drive a dog 100 kilometres after she had rolled in a dead fish.

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Denis, that must have been a fun car ride! 😁 Thankfully Eivor and Pearl aren’t fussed about rolling on the beach and leave the crows to feed on any washed up fish in peace 💛
