We’ve had some heavy rain the last few days. The weather was wild in the North with gale force winds, flinging our last apples from the tree. We’ll leave these for the hedgehogs, the visiting birds.
There are so many ways to climb the hill. Stone steps are here for those who stride big, who like something solid underfoot. I prefer to take smaller steps, feel the soil between my toes, the earth’s heartbeat.

We pause to read messages left here by the deer, hear the swish of dippers’ wings above the flowing waters. It’s in the silence, where we hear our guidance speak.

The trail climbs between birch and Douglas fir. Protected from the breeze it carries us higher and higher. We hear water gushing below, the sound of insects humming.
