Tanka Prose: The Carer’s Carer

For Walter and all of you who care for others.

p1090330-ww

Walter is saying goodbye to us at dVerse Poets to take care of his wife of 32 years and put his poetry on the back-burner for a little while. Like so many of us who care for loved ones, whether four-legged or on two legs, there is so much I learned along the way from those who went there before me.

When you roll up your sleeves to look after others it is important you also take time to roll them back down and look after you. The more you look after yourself the better you are able to care for those you love.

Your muse
becomes the carer’s carer
illuminating
the changing colours
of the dragonfly.

Thank you for hosting at the bar Walter and we wish you all the best. You and your wife are in our prayers.

With love from us all,

We are walking through the forest to shelter from the arctic wind. Light rain and wet snow soften the earth and give the golden leaves some extra sparkle.

where mist
and cloud embrace

It has been a while since we included a music video and today we heard a few people singing this song and thought it would be nice to include an old clip where the original band perform it live. The song is called ‘Chi Mi’n Geamhradh’ (I see Winter) and it is performed by Runrig, a band originally from the Isle of Skye.

black whippet in black coat and snood by loch shore.

We do not have much body fat or fur and wrap up warm in the morning mist. There is a chill in the air and it feels colder when the skies are clear. Kind-hearted souls knit snoods and sew coats to help homeless hounds. The money goes towards helping the dogs with veterinary care, food and shelter until a permanent new home can be found.

Greyhound eyes
deserve to sparkle
like the sky
small acts of kindness
save many gentle souls.
