Meeting Misty

A warm-hearted thank you to all of you who showed so much kindness and love after the loss of our beloved Eivor and Pearl last month. Your prayers, healing, comments, messages and cards have wrapped us in a warm blanket of comfort, love and light.

We had no intention of fostering or adopting another dog so soon until angels both in heaven and on earth brought Misty into our lives. She was the much-loved only dog of an elderly couple, who have cared for her since she was a pup. The woman passed away six years ago and her widower passed away recently.

Misty is used to a quiet life and needs to be the only pet in the house. Her family are great animal lovers with a house full of pets and a lively toddler.

They contacted rehoming charity Give a Greyhound a Home and asked if they could find a Forever Foster Home for Misty. Misty is on medication for life for one health condition and on a special diet for another. She is receiving supplements for a third condition and a fourth condition is currently not life-threatening, though needs to be monitored.

The family visited us with Misty the day before we were leaving for a short break. In the midst of all our grief, Misty moved between us with love, kindness and grace and we felt the possibilities for healing.

There were tears. Above all, there was love. They left Misty in our care with her food and medication, her beds and blankets and a warm red coat.

Here a new journey begins. We feel grateful and blessed to be able to care for this sweet soul in her twilight years and remain in close contact with her family.

Our walks are shorter and quieter, giving us special times together with all the beauty and magic that nature has to offer.

We will post here on Mondays and Thursdays, and continue to post on our sister blog Tranature on Wednesdays.

Wishing you all a happy Monday and a blessed Summer Solstice/Winter Solstice tomorrow,

with love from Misty and Xenia xxx

Thank You Certificate from Children with Cancer UK

We have also made our first donation to Dogs Trust, in memory of Flynn, Fergal, Seamus and Ruby.

Thank You Certificate from Dogs Trust

Dogs Trust is the UK’s largest dog welfare charity and has been caring for dogs in need for more than 128 years. They take in dogs that have been abandoned or handed in by owners who could no longer care for them and find them new, loving forever homes.

They have micro-chipped more than 1.1 million dogs and neutered more than 827,000 dogs since 1999 and provided special foster homes for dogs from families fleeing domestic violence. In addition to these services they run educational programmes in schools, training programmes for owners and actively campaign on dog welfare-related issues.

To find out more about their work or to support Dogs Trust directly, please visit their website here.

Thank You for Spreading the Love

We are delighted to share that we are sponsoring a kennel with the Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, also known as the SSPCA, at two of their Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres.

The SSPCA is Scotland’s largest animal welfare and rescue charity with nine Animal Rescue and Rehoming Centres across the country. They rescue, nurture and rehome animals, investigate abuse and play a vital role in research and education on animal welfare.

You can read more about the amazing work they do and watch a lovely introductory video on their website.

In addition to sponsoring the kennels at the SSPCA we were able to sponsor a special kennel at the Scottish Greyhound Sanctuary in support of the Macau greyhounds. You can read their story in the post Helping the Hounds of Macau and a further update in Edge of New Tomorrows.

We are also very grateful that we could make a small donation to Dogs on the Streets (DOTS), a charity that cares for the dogs of the homeless and helps to find them and their owners suitable housing. You can read more about this story in our post My Friend, My Rock.

These are all small steps that are part of a longer journey.

We are very grateful to presenters Kit Pancoast Nagamura, Kazuko Nishimura and Dan Mitsu for their thoughtful and entertaining interpretation of this photo haiku.

The entire episode, featuring a number of photo haiku and haiku by other international haiku poets, is available to view on the NHK World Japan website and lasts approximately 28 minutes.

Wishing you all a magical Wednesday,

When the Mist Rises

Eivor and Pearl wanted to create this post for our blogging friend Bella and her family and the many others who lost their loved ones after they’d been given transfusions or products containing infected blood.

May the love and light of this world continue to wrap itself around all of you who need it at this time.
