Tanka: Gulls and Geese

a brindle whippet in a red jacket near rockpools
a smiling brindle whippet in a red jacket walking across tidal sands

gulls chatter
on the other side of the rocks
looking round
the sky suddenly fills
with a thousand voices

  1. Congratulations, Xenia! Your poem made me think of how I used to climb a small mountain in Southern California just before sunset to watch a spiral of gulls spin up and up then head to the ocean. I don’t know where they were before that moment, only where they went. And, Misty, I love your smile. Invariably, I smile back. 💚🐾
