Sweet Dreams Sweet Pearl

We are beyond devastated to let you know that Pearl followed Eivor across the rainbow bridge this morning.

She took a bad turn yesterday afternoon with a racing heart and a high temperature and stayed at the vets overnight, where her condition initially became stable. This morning she took another bad turn and the vet said that the kindest thing was to let her go.

I spent an hour by her side before she slipped away and wished her the safest journey.

Pearl was the sweetest, bravest and cheekiest soul we were lucky enough to share so many wonderful years with in this life.

She and Eivor were inseparable and now they are together again.

I am taking a break from blogging on Whippet Wisdom for the moment and will post my haiku, haibun, tanka, and other poems and photographs on my nature blog, Tranature.

Thank you all for walking along with us here over the years. It has been a great pleasure to share the natural beauty as seen through the eyes of our beloved friends. Their spirit will always live on in our hearts.

  4. I am so very very sorry for you having to deal with such another great loss so soon. I can’t imagine how devastated you must be right now and my heart aches for you. Please be gentle with your self right now and take the time you need to adjust to the grief and loss.

  7. How terrible to lose Pearl so soon after Eivor. You must be devastated. I wonder if Pearl died of grief. I’ve heard it can happen. Anyway, my eyes are full of tears, and I am so sad for you. Hugs across the ocean from Maine. Sigh. I will sure miss seeing pictures of those beautiful dogs.

  11. Xenia, I don’t have any words to express how I feel. It’s so sudden, and so soon after Eivor. I’m stunned, and my heart is just numb. I’m so sorry for your losses.   26. 💜 Xenia I am so very very sorry. 💙 💔

    🐾🐾 My image of Dog Heaven is a beautiful forest where all my dogs live together and hunt and run safely all the time, where there is always fresh water and their favorite food and, most of all, each other. There is a house there where I will live someday. Some of my friends’ dogs live there, too. It snows but it’s never bitterly cold. The grass is always green and soft. There are rabbits to chase but never catch (the hunt is everything!) There is also a beach because some of my dogs loved the ocean.

    Over the years (since I was 35) I have had and lost 25 dogs. Every loss was so very painful, but when the time was right, one of the Enchanted Forest dogs brought me another. Lily brought me Bear. Dusty T. Dog brought me Teddy, three years ago today. Dusty was still here, but only a few days longer. Ariel brought me Jasmine and Lily and so it went. I can hear them sometimes when I’m hurting from the loss saying, “You gave us such a good home, keep your eyes open…”

    I know the time is coming when I won’t be able to care for a dog. I hope it’s not soon. But the day will come when I will join all of them for eternal hikes. It’s the sad unfathomable reality of life. But I have tears in my eyes, Xenia. Bear, Teddy and I send you our love. 💚 🐾🐾

  38. So many friends responding here as I’m a day late after my return from vacation. I’ve read somewhere before that you should not respond with a story of I’ve been there too, but I’m going to share with you anyways as I’m wanting to share my thoughts, so forgive me as I know this is not about me but sometimes it helps as we all go through these passings in one way or another, together. When my Dad passed away suddenly from a heart attack, my Mom followed him 10 days later and I truly believe she passed from a broken heart. It will be 20 years ago next year and there definitely is comfort in knowing they are together again as it should be. My heart goes out to you and your family as you grieve for Pearl. I do think with the sadness there is much Love knowing they both are romping the fields together. Sending huge giant HUGS, to you my sweet blogging friend!!
