Puente Poetry: Walkway to the Light

a blue and white whippet in a pink winter jacket climbing a wooden walkway in the dunes
a blue and white whippet in a pink winter jacket pausing on top of wooden steps towards the beach

on the weathered wooden walkway
marram grass bursts through the slats
birds rest on the handrails
human hands no longer touch

~ structures built to help us ~

are smoothed by wind and rain
the last two years have taught us
to seek the light again
where natural kindness rises

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words dear Mike! We have always given the animals we adopted a new name, in case they have any negative associations with a name from their previous life, and this helps them make a fresh start. We chose Eivor and Pearl as they are names we had come across before and thought they suited the dogs’ personalities. Eivor is a Norse name originally, meaning ‘gift’ and ‘Pearl’ reminded me of a lovely greyhound girl I looked after when volunteering at a shelter 🐾💛🐾

      1. Thanks, Xenia, for the informative and endearing background on the names. I have so much respect for people who work with animals and want to say thank you for your volunteer service. It’s truly heartwarming and bespeaks of a wonderful soul. I’m sure Eivor and Pearl are beyond happy with you in their lives. 🙂

  3. Lovely, Xenia. Pretty in pink – can I assume that is Pearl? It always looks so peaceful on your beach and a nice place to take a walk (run, if you’re a whippet) and contemplate the day. Sending hugs and love. 🙂

Nature always finds a way, with or without us because we may consider ourselves the dominant one but we are certainly not the only one!

Thank you so much for sharing these wonderful thought and sky captures with my challenge, Xenia 🙂
