EarthRise Rolling Haiku Collaboration 2020

Year of the Nurse

We are deeply honoured and delighted to be part of EarthRise Rolling Haiku Collaboration 2020, a collaborative poem created by haiku poets from around the world.

The theme for 2020 was The Year of the Nurse and we submitted six previously unpublished haiku for this wonderful project. We are sharing three of them here today and will post the other three on our sister blog Tranature on Wednesday 22 April 2020.

The cat in the photograph is Christy. We adopted him from a feline rescue organisation in 1992 when he was believed to be nine years old. He lived with us for another ten years and we were very grateful for all the time we had together.

If you are interested in adopting a cat or dog from a shelter, please consider adopting a senior. They can have the most amazing personalities and are a true joy to have around.

The full set of contributions to EarthRise Rolling Haiku Collaboration 2020 is available as a free download here. A very big thank you to all the contributors and to Jim Kacian and the Haiku Foundation for featuring my poems and putting this beautiful edition together.

We wish you all very happy Monday and may you be safe and well,

With love from Eivor, Pearl and Xenia xxx

  1. A heartfelt tribute to the nurse. This could not be more timely. I always love the words and these words brought a tear to my eye. Beautifully done. I have shared this to my personal page on Facebook. There is so much on Social Media that is so very ugly and I want to lighten that with something of beauty.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words dear Elaine, it’s so lovely to see how Mia has landed on her paws with you. There’s something special about adopting older cats and it’s so rewarding. Hope you are safe and well too and please give Mia a gentle pat from us all πŸ€—πŸ’– xxx

  3. If you want the truth unvarnished, send in the poets. Love images of your pooches. Our middle daughter is an RN. We worry about her, you, and most every beating heart on this planet.

  4. Congratulations on bring part of the EarthRise Rolling Haiku Collaboration, Xenia! The theme of the nurse is perfect for this pandemic year, indeed any year. I didn’t know you had cat, a handsome boy, and having an adopted senior cat for ten years is wonderful, as they often have problems that shorten their lives. I love all the photos and haiku. My favourite is:
    β€˜adjusting pillows
    before the night spreads
    his final round’.
