Haibun: This World We Sail In

Glen Affric

a blue and white whippet in a black jacket climbing a hill on a forest trail

There are so many ways to climb the hill. Stone steps are here for those who stride big, who like something solid underfoot. I prefer to take smaller steps, feel the soil between my toes, the earth’s heartbeat.

We pause to read messages left here by the deer, hear the swish of dippers’ wings above the flowing waters. It’s in the silence, where we hear our guidance speak.

  1. What a treat this is has been! And “The world we sail in” is evocative and beautiful. Two novels from now, I will be writing a book called “Little Sister’s Dream,” and I will be keeping those words in mind.

  4. Ah, a verdant stroll through Glen Affric; I feel as if I walked whippet-wise at your side. This/these haibun+ images are some of your best work; the haiku are stunning.

  5. A beautiful nature reserve indeed! I particularly enjoyed the photo of a path with roots along the sides. Even though we may think we’re shaping the earth, it’s really Nature holding everything together 🙂
