Haibun: Carried by Waves

The opposite shore is wrapped in morning mist, the snow-capped peaks invisible. Driftwood lies scattered on the sands. Here and there, a trunk rests upright. We greet red noses, wind-swept faces. Our eyes begin to water from the icy breeze.

  1. Living just north of Lake Ontario (45 minute walk from my apartment), can appreciate the colder temperatures from a large body of water. Must say, the brown sugar colour of the sand surprised me. So used to the white sand or gravelly beaches, in Ontario. Xenia, Eivor and Pearl are so lucky have found a human friend like you. Wish more people cared about animals like. Star, one of my 3 feline companions, is a rescued kitten that I took om, after being abuse and abandoned.

Wishing Eivor, Pearl and Xenia, a safe and happy holiday season.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words and good wishes dear Therisa 💜 We have some white sand beaches on the West coast but here in the East the sand is more brown in colour, especially the tidal sands which are under water at high tide. The warm glow of the low Winter sun makes it look like brown sugar too! So happy to hear Star has landed on her paws with you. We wish you all a blessed and happy holiday season in your beautiful part of the world 🤗🐾💖🐾 xxx

  2. Beautiful shots by the shore, Xenia. Despite the cooler weather, looks like Eivor and Pearl had a good time. Lovely haiku too. Captures the cold of winter very well. The snow-capped peaks must be lovely to see when they are not wrapped up in the mist 🙂 It is summer here in Australia and I am enjoying it so far. Hope you are well and take care 🙂
