Haibun: A Sense of Peace

a wooden marker covered in seaweed and swallowed by tidal sands

What began as a guiding light for sailors is swallowed by shifting sands. The river readjusts her flow into the sea, the sailors readjust their navigations. Seaweed covers the remaining frame in vivid green around the barnacles, accepting all that changes.

      1. Wow – that is a long way north. Many years ago I went to a talk by the founder of Findhorn. He said they were just inside the Arctic Circle. No wonder it gets cold.

We get the Antarctic gales here but we are on a higher latitude than you. It’s interesting that the light is similar though. Your photos yesterday reminded me of sunny mornings in spring at the beaches down here.

  1. I love the way you’ve taken something that others might overlook and brought it back to life, Xenia, using contrasts and similarities! I also love the beautifying seaweed and barnacles, and the peaceful, glistening haiku.
