When we posted The Yellow Ball on Tuesday a few people asked ‘What happened next?’ Eivor and Pearl are chasing a yellow ball along the loch shore. It flies through the air, bounces off an exposed tree root and rolls towards the water. For two whippets running at 35mph the hunt is real. Eivor is leading, with Pearl closeby in case their ‘prey’ gets away. It is a team effort. The joy afterwards is shared.

Thank you for your kind words Cathy. It is always the simplest pleasures that make them the happiest – it never seems to matter who brings the ball back, they’re both over-joyed! Hope you are having a great day and much love to you and Finn :o) xxx

I’m glad they got the ball before it went into the water. I’m sure the water would have been too cold for them. Is Eivor the grey dog? I thought Pearl was grey and Eivor the darker whippet.

Thank you Kim, Eivor got the ball just from the edge of the water! Eivor is the black dog and Pearl the grey and white whippet/italian greyhound cross :o) xxx

When I try to ‘like’ the post on your blog and leave a comment it seems unwilling to accept either – I am not sure if it is ending up in your spam folder.

Could be a WP hiccup. I just liked and commented on the post, then deleted them. Try again: it may go through.

I hope not. Otherwise, I will have words with WordPress, some of which I doubt the provider will like!

I have left a message with them too because a few other comments have disappeared in the ether today. This seems to happen from time to time. The last time was just under a year ago on a dVerse Open Link Night when I had left comments on at least twenty blogs and only five of them unspammed me! :o)

Well done, Eivor, and it’s lovely that you share your toys with Pearl. I’m a bit too slow now to chase balls but I used to love it. Our Pearly Greyhound has never seen the point of chasing things that aren’t alive. She doesn’t know what she’s missed! Millie xx

Thank you dear Millie and so glad to hear you used to love chasing balls too – it is so much fun! After we have caught some balls we walk straight past the deer in the forest – they seem to know we have already done our chasing for the day 😉🦌💖 xxx

This is so much fun, Xenia. I wish we could see these Italian Greyhounds, Frida and Elvis, run at full speed, one day, but they are not very playful and coming of age. They also run a bit “funny”. 🙂

Thank you for your kind words Liesbet. Frida and Elvis are a bit older and they look as if they want to take things a bit easier than our two. It still feels as if Eivor and Pearl are making up for lost time since we adopted them. Pearl did not get the exercise she needed and Eivor was never taken for a walk during the first three years of his life xxx

Haibun provides a connective tissue between moments in poems — its like the ball gets picked up and thrown again.

I love the energy and action of your Hai bun. I can see the action in my mind as I read. I once had a dog that loved to chase a tennis ball. I threw the slimy ball so many times I lost count. He always came back for more!

Thank you so much for your kind words Dwight, it is a fun game to play and it sounds like your dog loved it too. We have adopted several dogs with a strong prey drive and this is a great way for them to release that energy ☺🐾🐾
