Haibun: When Winter Takes A Friend

We awake to a blanket of snows, a phonecall with news of your passing.  It feels as if we were friends before we met. I hope we can meet again somewhere among the stars, in a place where time is timeless.

For our dear friend Carol who passed away after a long battle with illness. Thank you for thirty years of friendship, laughter and rebel songs, for always wanting to help others and standing up for what you believe in. You will always be in our hearts.

With love from Eivor, Pearl and Xenia xxx

  1. I’m very sorry to hear about your sad news. I hope it was a peaceful crossing. It was the image that drew me here, a beautiful photograph of the path in the snow. I’m glad that it did, thank you for sharing!

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words, her passing was sudden and peaceful. I was told she would not have been in any pain and that is a great comfort. She loved the natural beauty of the Scottish Highlands and she would have been delighted that you enjoy the scenery too :o)

  2. Oh Xenia, I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your friend. I am glad she would not have been in any pain. This is a beautiful haibun. I weep for you as I wept for a beloved friend who died suddenly from a long illness, three years ago. Take care of yourself. Prayers are with you. Hugs. Toni

  3. I leave you this one thought to keep:
I am with you still, I do not sleep.
I am the thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain,
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you awaken in the morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of silent birds in circled flight.
I am the soft stars that shine at night.
Do not think of me as gone.
For I am with you still in each new dawn.

    With condolences on your loss.
Cleave to your memories and golden moments, for what has passed will never change.
To hold one in heart and memory, the nearest thing to immortality.

    Seek peace,

    Paz

    1. Thank you for your kind words Laurie 💜 I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your dear friend and I can understand how you still miss her. I truly believe we all meet again one day and, like the Navajo Prayer in the comment from Paz, I feel the presence of the love that flowed through my friend all around me in nature 💜 xxx
