Haibun: A Season’s Blessing

Picadilly Circus, London, at night with a personalised Christmas Message on the main advertising screen

Next to the red scented candle stands a photograph in a small frame, propped up by a stone from the river. It was a Christmas greeting from our friends that came as such a wonderful surprise. It was 1991 and after two years in Edinburgh we returned to London for our first Christmas as a married couple.

The photograph is a shot of Picadilly Circus at night. On the main advertising screen a simple message reads ‘Merry Christmas Xenia & Paul’. It made us feel at home.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words Penny. I sometimes miss the Christmas lights of London too and the smell of roasted chestnuts. This city will always have a very special place in my heart. Warm wishes from here for you and Tia :o) xxx

  1. What an amazing gift to have a big billboard send well-wishes your way. Talk about an incredible, personable welcome. I’m glad you still have the photo and it is a part of your yearly Christmas celebrations!
