Haibun: A Prayer For Las Vegas

autumn leaves and berries in the rain

The tail of hurricane Maria has arrived. With strong winds and heavy showers we seek our shelter among the trees and stay here for an hour. The smells of Autumn fill the air. Among the green and gold we see the reds of berries. The soil is slippy underfoot and we are careful where we place our feet.

Our hearts go out to the people of Las Vegas. It is hard to comprehend how something like this can happen. We have been given the gift of life to live on this beautiful earth. An earth that keeps on giving. Today, more stories have emerged. Stories of love, of courage, of people saving lives while giving up their own. We pause here by the river. Even though the water flows at speed her energy is soothing. The river wants to give. The trees want us to heal.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all the people affected by what happened in Las Vegas, their family and friends and all the people from the emergency services who are doing an amazing job.

  1. Yes, lovely words and nature often brings solace. For the past year, it has been such a hard time for this country, but seeing those beautiful dogs always cheers me up.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Laurie 💜 Our hearts go out to the people who have been affected every time something happens. I have never known a time like this when those in positions of power with the ability to change things for the better continue to be unwilling to do so. The majority of people, animals and nature continue to show what is good about life and I am grateful for what I can share here through our images and stories. It is lovely to know that Eivor and Pearl help to cheer you up. They send you their love and want you to continue to enjoy all that is good about life ☺💖 xxx

      1. Your words describe the situation perfectly. The leadership in this country is so bad, so wretched, that I hardly have words to describe it. But thank goodness for Eivor and Pearl and all the words and images from my other blogging friends.
