The smells of soil grow richer and deeper as the season cloaks in change. The earth feels full of life beneath our feet, the roots of trees. The sun is lower in the sky and her tones are warming. Nurturing and sharing in the dappled forest light, the pine trees redirect their crowns. This beautiful play of rays we see dance between their branches the Japanese call Komorebi.

I love the pics of the pups running wild and free. They look so happy! I also like the shots of the heather as well. We do not have that gorgeous plant here in the US. Your haiku is so happy!

Thank you so much for your kind words Toni and for hosting this beautiful prompt! ☺ I love the heather and we are lucky to see the flowers opening first by the sea, then in the glens and finally in the mountains, extending the purple bliss over a longer period ☺💜 xxx

How long does it last for? Will there still be heather at half term?

There is a big chance there will still be heather in bloom on the higher ground by then as it has stayed cold in the mountains for so much longer this year ☺💜 xxx

Perfect photos of whippets in heather, Xenia, and I love the phrase ‘ the season cloaks in change’. Your haiku reminded me of the song, ‘Blooming Heather’ – in reverse:
Oh the summertime is coming
And the trees are sweetly blooming
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?
And we’ll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the blooming heather
Will ye go, Lassie go?

I liked this sentence: ” The earth feels full of life beneath our feet, the roots of trees. ” I sometimes forget that when I’m walking. I think of the life above me in the leaves and brances, but it is all over, even below.

Exquisite prose and haiku. ‘The pine trees redirect their crowns’ captured my attention…whether actually observed or intuited this is fantastic. I also absorbed how your variation of form worked quite well.

Thank you for your kind words Janice 💜 Spending so much time walking through the pine forests it feels as if I was subconsciously aware before it registered at a more conscious level. Writing can often bring this awareness to the surface for me 😉💖 xxx
