Haibun: Beyond The Gate

An icy fog hugs the mountain behind a chilling wind. Winter sleeps here without her snows. We descend into the glen where Summer lives. Beyond the gate a forest welcomes us with open arms. The green is vibrant and full of bird song. It feels good to breathe in soothing smells and walk the sheltered path ahead. It feels good to be back in the warm, even though the hills are calling.

so much beauty here
leaves turn towards the light
my heart follows

    1. Thank you Olga, I had to chuckle when you said this earlier when I had just pressed the publish button 😉 We had to respect nature on the mountain where it was too dangerous in 70 mph winds – her arms were wide open back in the glen and we were grateful for their warm embrace ☺💜🌲 xxx

  1. I went on that walk with you Xenia. It’s beautifully written and your words really flow. The idea of the heart following the light is so subtly but powerfully expressed. Thanks so much for responding to the prompt.

  2. I love your Hiabun, Xenia! I could feel the foggy chill gradually turned into summer warmth. Isn’t it true that we love to stay at a place yet we have to move on? Love the woody photos. Hugs, Miriam

    1. Thank you Miriam, that is so true. We love hiking in the mountains and it was not safe to continue on this day. Hopefully there will be other days before the snows return and we had a wonderful walk in the forest, which was very special ☺🌲🐾🐾

      1. Awesome! I shall reply soon.

I love conversations. Your haibun really did make my day to be quite honest. Lately, I’ve been feeling extremely down…flash backs and all. Reading all poets including your work gave me a sense of strong and hope for humanity and earth itself.

  4. So interesting how you can move from coldness to summer warmth just from moving from the mountain to the glen. I love the image of the forest beyond the gate…a perfectly beautiful haibun, Xenia…loved it!

    1. Thank you for your kind words Gayle 💜 There is a bigger temperature difference this year than we have seen in a while and the glen felt like a warm blanket ☺💖 xxx

  5. I love the way you’ve captured the contrast between mountains and glens, Xenia, and the sentence ‘ Winter sleeps here without her snows’ is a gem, and the haiku would fit perfectly in Carpe Diem’s departure theme! I hope the sun shines on you all this weekend! xxx

      1. Thank you for teaching and sharing! Now I must google and learn more about whippets. They are both really regal looking and was admiring their “jackets” they wore in the photos. You take good care of them and I am sure the 2 whippets love you as they are lucky! 😉 Garfield hugs!

      2. Thank you and it is a pleasure to share. Whippets have very little body fat and only a single coat of thin fur, which makes them very sensitive to the cold. Thankfully they enjoy wearing jumpers and coats during the colder seasons so they can still have fun outdoors and explore 😉🌲🐾🐾 Thank you for stopping by and hugs to you too 🤗💖 xxx
