Tuesday Photo Challenge: History

Today we play on the beach against a backdrop from another era. Watch bunkers from World War II sit quietly on the sand while the moon guides the sea. Further along the coast anti-tank blocks and pill boxes are tipping over. Some completely disappear. Coastal erosion is eroding memories too. Friends and families light barbecues among the remains of structures created when the threat of invasion was real.

  6. Wonder if those who were defending your country would have ever envisioned the “new life” that is today? It sure is a different world. Today, on our independence day, I am thankful for all those who came before that defended the freedoms that we have today…and often take for granted.

  11. Fascinating images Xenia and a bit more on those wartime defences. Amazing how the government simply left them there to mar the landscape. How the concept of war has changed since WW2. Everyone knew whom the enemy was and where they were. Today……………..

    1. Thank you for your kind words Denis and it seems common practice for successive governments to leave these structures in the sand. Back then it certainly was more clear who the enemies were!
