Haibun: Jewels In The Sand

black whippet by a tidal lagoon

It is that time of year when some fellow bloggers put a lot of effort into creating a competition. A competition between bloggers, some of whom have become friends. A competition that sends some bloggers into a vote-recruiting frenzy, asking anyone who reads their blog to ‘help them win’. It has very little to do with the real jewels in the sand.

We are grateful to have been nominated for the second year running. The intent behind the nomination we are sure, came from a good place. However, we do not believe in the circus this competition creates. Like we have said many times before, your love, comments and smiles across the miles are more than reward enough.

To us, the notion that one blogger is better than another is absurd. We are all winners.

  1. Wow… Aesthetic photos, superb photographing skills, loving the shots taken. Wonderful, splendid, just inexplicably magnificent. Great layout. Loving the few words, a tiny yet suiting description about the pictures. Short and sweet. Have hope, write on! 🙂

    1. Thank you for your kind words Sascha 💖It is the Annual Bloggers Bash Award where nominated bloggers ‘compete’ within designated categories. The ‘competitors’ do not enter the competition themselves, they are nominated.

  2. Τhe first photo is superb, as many on this blog as well of course.
I m a part of a very competitive community,as dancers community is,and I always felt weird with this.
My thought always is, you gonna find your own place in the world, not looking on others but within your self.
I created my own blog in the first place, just to have my most beloved photos some where else in the case that my hard disk will blow up some day! So,the up coming likes from other bloggers were a surprise and welcomed of course, but not my prime goal!
So I m out of competitive feelings as a dancer and as a blogger.
I m with you on this.
If we match,we match,if we don’t, there is a big world out there, every one can find something different who likes.
Competition,in blogging, and in many aspects of life, for me is just wasted energy and loss of point.
    Just my personal opinion.

    1. Thank you dear Rodo for sharing this and I totally agree with you. I too believe that competition is a waste of energy, especially in the blogosphere where so many share their personal images and stories. Everything here is special in its own way and we can all find our own place in the world from within ourselves and those we connect and resonate with. Thank you for your kind words and much love to you from all of us here 💖🐾🐾

  3. I totally agree with you. Competitive blogging really upsets me. I blog to communicate and for personal expression. Life is competitive enough without making blogging into a contest.

      1. Thank you so much Sherif, that is very kind of you. We are an award free blog since last October, so please feel free to pass it on to someone else. Your smiles and visits are more than award enough ;o)

      1. You too, Xenia! I’m running a Chatterbooks session at the library tomorrow morning and storytelling at the Cromer Crab and Lobster festival on Sunday, so it’ll be a busy one! 😊 xxx

  4. Hear, hear! What I love so much about blogging is the community of friends I have met across the country, across the sea. Being competitive would just ruin things.

    1. Thank you kindly Paul, I truly believe that any endeavour that runs on co-operative principles has the kind of heart and value that brings rewards way beyond the material ;o)

  5. Competitions can distort the purpose the artist intended. I’m on one other blog that has a continual competition going on. One day I had overy 500 visitors to my blog but no one actually read anything, harumph!
