Quadrille: Love Echoes

black whippet on loch shore in morning sun

an echo of winter
clings to the corries
while melting snows
flow into the loch
once more

all that is green
grows and glows
in the morning sun

stars of blue
dance in deep water
while sand feels
warm underfoot –
so full of promise

  1. Even with that echo of winter, your Quadrille has so much colour, Xenia! love the way you use the Scottish terms ‘corries’ and ‘loch’ in a way that even reader who is unfamiliar with them wouldn’t stumble over them. I also love the echo in the internal rhyme of ‘grows and glows’.

  2. This is beautiful! I’m so glad that winter is now just an echo. I spent the weekend at our local beach on the Oregon Coast and it was warm and sunny. This poem reminds me of that wonderful feeling I had there that summer is coming.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words 💜 It will be warmer here than on the coast for the next few months and it is lovely to spend time further inland now the snows have gone 🌞🌲🐾🐾
