First Blogoversary

lr-1050987 ww

Today is the first year anniversary of our blog and little did I know back then how this journey was going to unfold. It began as an idea to gather and re-work some of the stories I had written inspired by real-life encounters with other dog walkers and post some of the photographs I had taken on our walks. It was also intended as an insight into life with rescue dogs who love to run and explore new places. With so much exploitation of sighthounds around the globe I wanted to fly the flag for sighthounds as sentient and loving beings who deserve a loving home and the freedom to run for fun.

The blog has evolved organically into a poetry blog with photographs and a photography blog with poetry. I have met so many wonderful bloggers along the way and I am thanking you all from the bottom of my heart for being part of this journey. Your visits, follows, comments, words of encouragement and spontaneous response poems have made this blog more magical than I ever thought it could be.

The natural beauty around us continues to inspire and this month Kristjaan at Carpe Diem has introduced us to the Persian poetry of Hafiz. “The nightingale, and none beside knows the value of the rose,” sings Hafiz, “for many a one reads the leaf and understands not the meaning thereof.” We are constantly in awe and humbled by the sheer beauty of nature and the way love flows through all that we see.

  4. Congratulations on a year in the blogging world. My anniversary was back in December, but I was very sporadic with my posts the first year. I’m working on doing at least one a week this year. Love your blog and so glad I found it. The pictures of your whippets and your lovely words always make me smile.

  5. I have loved every one of your posts. You have brought me into a world I wouldn’t have known and it has helped heal a childhood wound I never quite understood. I grew up by the DelMar racetrack in southern California and every time we got close enough to see, not the races, but the dogs (Greyhounds, not Whippets) I would cry at how they seemed to be treated. My shy Dad would try to comfort me with stories of the wonderful life these dogs would have when they retired from their job of racing. But discovering your blog and what you do has completed what my sweet Dad started. Thank you so much to all of you and congratulations.

    1. Thank you so much for your friendship Kathie and for caring about the fate of the hounds you saw at the track at such a young age. They are the kindest souls and there are many of us who continue to campaign for better treatment of racing dogs and to show that they make wonderful and loving pets after retirement. Your dad could see that too and it is lovely to know that your discovery of our blog helped heal a childhood wound. I am so grateful we have met here and connected through our love of nature, our love of animals and so much else besides. A big hug across the miles from all of us here xxx
