It feels colder today and we wrap up warm for our walk to Lochan Uaine. The forest smells fresh after the rain and the few lone walkers we meet smile and nod at our companions. No one speaks. No one wants to interrupt the messages from the wind, the call of the falcon. A silver haired hiker bends down to stroke me behind my ears. I place my paw on his knee and look deep into his eyes. They well up with tears and I send love from my heart to his. He strokes me again and plants a kiss on top of my head. He and our companion look at each other and understand. With a smile and a wave he walks on to An Sidhean.

I see that Eivor has that deep seated understanding of a dog for a human. Wonderful haiku in another marvelous haibun. I can see the meeting in my mind. ~~dru~~

Thank you Eivor for this beautiful haibun. I love how you connected with the human and sent love to him. I imagine you reminded him of someone he loved and lost. Absolutely gorgeous. I love your writing style.

Thank you so much for your kind words dear Toni. I could feel the pain in his heart. It felt as if the love he was giving me was also his love for the dog he lost. It felt very special to connect with him and send love to his heart xxx

Nice change of perspective to have the “I” in the poem being one of your dogs, Eivor, I assume, based on the comments. I like the idea of deliberately sending love from the heart.

Oooh! This is my favorite. I’ve got the chills. While the whole poem is exquisite, this line got me:
No one wants to interrupt the messages from the wind, the call of the falcon.

Thank you for your kind words Shielagh and so lovely to see you are learning about haibun and tanka – I am still learning about them too when they tap me on the shoulder and nudge the words a certain way ☺

I, too, bend and pause to stroke a coat.
One cannot stop the tears.
They are not altogether sad.
There is some pining for the lost,
Yet mostly these are tears of joy,
Past, present and future.
Thanks for this touching post.
