Changing Seasons

p1050897-ww

We are in our fifties and are still referred to as ‘the young couple’ by our neighbours. It sometimes feels as if they forget when they grow older, we grow older too. The moon harvests a few more souls each August and as I walk these streets in silence I remember the banter over garden gates, the smiles waving me in for a cup of tea and stories about how life used to be.

when our days cool down
sky unfolds her warmest
blanket of colours

  1. Both those photos are fabulous, but the capture of Eivor is just stunning. The colours in the water at his feet, the reflections and his stance. I’d frame it, if it were mine! And the haiku couldn’t be better matched with the first photo. I don’t know how you keep coming up with them…but I’m glad you do 🙂 Much love xxx

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words Cathy. It always feels as if Eivor is as appreciative and contemplative about the natural beauty around us as we are ourselves, if not more so. I will get this photograph framed as we all love it too. I cannot stop the haiku from coming now that I have begun to write them down, they sometimes wake me up at night and I now have a writing pad handy! Thank you for stopping by and much love to you and Finn :o) xxx

      1. Thank you so much Cathy, it is all a learning curve for me and there may well be a book here to raise money for charity at some point. I appreciate your encouragement and may ask you for some advice in the future. Thank you again and much love to you and Finn :o) xxx

  2. I couldn’t help smiling when I read this post. I just concluded that you and your husband are ageing gracefully for people not to see you looking old. This cab only be Grace of God. Well done my friend and keep defyling nature. More Grace

  3. Beautiful haibun and haiku. Welcome to dVerse Haibun Monday! I love the images of the whippets. A dear departed friend of mine adopted greyhounds, but they are different. Yes, our elder neighbors refer to my husband and I as the youngsters.

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words Toni and for inspiring us all with such a beautiful prompt. We have adopted greyhounds in the past too and they will always have a warm place in our hearts. How wonderful you and your husband are also referred to as youngsters! :o) Thank you so much for stopping by and we wish you a blessed day :o)

  4. My short term memory being so short
Your word’s down here I have brought.
You will only know because I have said
For when I’m done they’ll be back in bed.

In your fifties, and still going very strong
Inspiring so, so many, as you stride along
When were down you’ve inadvertently helped
Released our pain when we’ve so loudly yelped.

When back on our paws, again we ramble
    Listening and watching wildlife gamble
With their lives, through out their life.
Winning each day, lessoning the strife

Now nearly time that we end our walk
Let our owner have some banter talk.
Although our lives won’t be as long as hers
We hope and wish her another fifty years.

Its me this time, that old man Mick
On behalf of Eivor, Pearl this quip
I hope you find it as it is meant to be
    In good taste most hopefully

Best wishes to you and all,

    Mick

  5. So true that we are always younger in someone’s perspective. Thank goodness for that. I enjoyed this haibun and your gorgeous photos. Thanks for joining in with us at dVerse. 🙂

  6. Lovely photo’s and sentiments. It’s strange how ‘time’ seems to pass quickly once you pass 50 and yet many things seem like just yesterday that were 20 years ago… Time has a strange way of distorting… x

    1. Thank you so much for your kind words Wendy. ‘Time’ does fly so much more quickly passed 50 and sometimes it feels more parallel than linear to me. Thank you for stopping by and have a blessed evening :o) xxx
