The Dry River And The Thirsty Loch

river trickles
her journey through glen and loch

The mountains are wrapped in clouds this morning. We had a cold night after a warm day. The mist has already left the loch and is rising through the trees.

The smells of Summer are waking up and I hear an eagle call from half-way down the east shore.

On the western side the river seeps into the loch. Her journey always seems longer in the drier months.

Eivor and I fly through the air to catch balls and run in big circles. There is so much space for running.

When I run back to our companion I notice a woman approach through the trees. She waves at us and our companion waves back.

“They’re having a lot of fun!” says the woman.

Our companion chucks a ball and I chase it over the sand.

“They love this beach,” says our companion. “We are enjoying it whilst it is here.”

“I didn’t realise it disappears,” says the woman.

“When the rains come and when the snows melt the river is in full flow and fills the whole loch,” says our companion.

“Wow,” says the woman. “I have seen water levels drop in other lochs  but none of them have a beach this size.”

It is the perfect size for us to play. We are grateful to Nature for giving us this beach a few months in the year.

We will sniff, run and play while the water stays away.

    1. Thank you for your kind words Denis! We feel truly blessed to be able to roam freely here during the warmer months. We cannot reach this place once the snows come. 🐾🐾
