A Small Book With A Big Purpose

When I was in my third year at primary school our teacher asked us to bring an album with blank pages for poetry and images. We all swapped albums and wrote poems for each other. Our teachers, friends outside of school and family members also filled the pages with their wishes for us, drawings, pictures and glitter.

Look around and see

we are not alone in this world.

That is why we play together,

sing together, share together.

Even though we are still small,

God wants to be a Father to us all.

(Translation from Dutch by Xenia Tran)

When all the children in the world

walk together hand in hand

all our lives will be enriched

and peace can reign at last.

I hope that all the poems

already in this album

and all those that are still to come

will come true one day for you.

(Translation from Dutch by Xenia Tran)

This little album has moved with me from home to home and from country to country. The poems, drawings and pictures continue to make me smile.

I believe this has always been their intended purpose.

Sending love to you all,
Xenia
