Believe In Yourself

Always believe in yourself, because your animals believe in you.

The sun’s reflection dances on the water like a thousand stars. “I’m not running today,” says Seamus. “I am happy to potter about and look for crabs.”

I have a good sniff at some seaweed. It smells of a hidden world, the magic world below the water. Some empty crab shells are entangled in the greens. Further along the shore the seagulls find a few more to pick clean.

A woman in a quilted coat and high boots appears from the dunes with a black greyhound on the lead. Our companion clicks her tongue and we gather around her. She clips our leads on when the woman calls over. “Let them run,” she says. “He’s fine, it’s me who has the problem.”

Our companion releases our leads and I approach the greyhound in a polite curve, so as not to alarm him. He wags his tail and leans forward to touch my nose. He seems a very kind soul.

“Why aren’t you off the lead?” I ask him. “She stopped believing in herself,” says the hound. “She has put me through training for recall and I always come back to her in class. When we go out she wants to let me off the lead, but then she stops herself and starts sending me all these frightening images. There’s pictures of me breaking my neck in a rabbit hole, pictures of me getting hit by a car. They’re so scary I don’t even want to be off the lead if that’s what’s going to happen to me.”

I tap the woman’s hand with my paw and tap on the leash.

“Would you like me to let him off sweetie?” she asks. I look straight into her eyes. Yes, I do want you to let him off. This dog was born to run! But first you need to let go of those pictures you are making.

IMG_20160425_185637 ww

Look at me. This is what you want to picture your greyhound doing when he is off the lead, instead of the pictures you are creating now.

I run off in a wide circle and come straight back.

“I’m not sure he’ll come back to me the way you come back,” she says.

She holds my gaze for a moment and I tell her. All you need to do is to believe in yourself. Believe in what is possible. Picture what is possible. Send your dog happy images of him running and enjoying himself and coming back to you when you call him.

She nods at me, unclips the lead and the greyhound runs towards the sea. “Angus,” she says, “Angus, Angus, Angus, Angus!”

I giver her a short sharp bark. “Oh, I am doing too much, aren’t I?” she says. I touch her hand with my nose and she begins to relax. Angus sweeps past for a couple of laps with Eivor and comes back with his tongue hanging out.

The woman beams with joy. “Thank you so much for helping me,” she says. “I just needed that extra push.” Angus wags his tail as he walks away with his companion. Hopefully he’ll have many more happy runs to enjoy.

We continue our own walk along the beach and I catch a few balls.

When humans are thinking they create images that go with their thoughts. Animals can see the pictures you make so make sure you are sending your animal friend pictures of what you want to see instead of what you’re afraid of.

Keep your thoughts and your pictures positive around your animals. Always believe in yourself, because your animals believe in you.

I send you all so much love,

Pearl xx

An Angel In Our Midst

She exists in this magical place and it makes coming here even more special than it was before.

Our companion pulls the picnic bag out from under the stairs and Pearl starts pogo bouncing in the hallway, barking with delight. Eivor races between the living room and the kitchen, fetching toys to pile up at our companion’s feet. I trot into the kitchen and look our companion straight in the eye as my tail spins like a propeller behind my back.

“I am coming,” I tell her. She blinks at me in acknowledgement. “Of course you can come Seamie,” she says. I fling one of Eivor’s toys around the kitchen and trot back to the living room for a pre-walk rest.

The sound of accordion, fiddle and banjo fills the car as we travel towards the mountains. The caps of the Monadliath are covered in snow. The hills ahead of us are green and I can already smell the trees.

IMG_20160428_121058

Pearl jumps in the play-bow and barks at Eivor. The first whippet race of the day is off and Eivor wins round one. I am going to pace myself today and trot through the forest.

Ruby loved coming here and I can feel her presence. It has been five months since she left us in her physical form. Her spirit still feels very alive to me.

IMG_20160428_121316

We come to a clearing where the stream widens. The water is flowing fast from the melting snows. Ruby used to love going in the water at this wider point. I can see her now with that sparkle in her eye.

Our companion walks to the bank, unties a purple ribbon from a pouch and turns it upside down. For a fleeting moment, the grey cloud of dust stretches into the shape of a running greyhound on the water. “Run free Ruby,” she says, “thank you so much for everything.”

When we continue towards the loch I can feel Ruby smiling among us. Eivor and Pearl can feel it too. Our companions are holding hands and look at each other.

IMG_20160427_080005

When we reach the loch side we breathe in the freshness of the open water and hear the birds sing a beautiful song. The water is so high that small islands appear which are part of the shoreline for most of the year.

IMG_20160427_080412

Eivor and Pearl normally have a wide beach here for running. They quickly adapt and run in smaller circles. We turn into the forest when the shoreline becomes too wet and cross another fast flowing stream. I look around to see if Ruby is coming.

“I am happy here in the forest,” she says. “I love the solitude and the beauty of the place. Many ashes have been scattered here and many spirits set free. It is where I now want to be.”

She fills my heart with love. She exists in this magical place and it makes coming here even more special than it was before.

I send you all so much love,

Seamus

What We Do In Life – Three Day Quote Challenge

Three Day Quote Challenge Day Three

We would like to thank Tippy Tales for nominating us to take part in the Three Day Quote Challenge.

When we were looking for a quote to complete our third day of the challenge I pointed my paw at the one below. This quote by Banksy seemed very poignant now that I have reached another crossroad in my life.

I can no longer do all the things I loved doing when I was younger. I can no longer run up the crags and the hills like a goat. I still love being of service to our pack and support Eivor and Pearl with my love and the wisdom I have garnered over the years.

Our companions allow me to choose when I want to join in on the walks and when I prefer to rest and sleep for a while. We walk on the lower side of the hills, in the glens and on the beaches where it is easier for me to breathe.

I am taking everything in and am grateful for the magic in every moment we spend together. I want to create happy memories which I can take with me when it is time for me to go.

So here is my quote for you, I hope you enjoy it.

“What we do in life echoes in eternity.” (Banksy)

One Genuine Insight – Three Day Quote Challenge

Three Day Quote Challenge Day Two

We would like to thank Tippy Tales for nominating us to take part in the Three Day Quote Challenge.

I used to bark often and loudly when I had something to say. I realise now that our companions can always hear me, even when I whisper. When I came across the quote below it immediately rang true. I hope you will enjoy it too.

“Sometimes one genuine insight is worth all your previous experiences in life.” (Sydney Banks)

We Were Put On This Earth

I think we were all put on this earth to make each other happy

lurcher and two whippets in forest

We are walking through the forest and it is very still and peaceful. I love all the smells and stop for a good sniff. Pearl is darting around like a young deer.

“She’s so happy, isn’t she?” says Seamus. “She makes me feel young again. My legs just can’t keep up with her.”

I do love racing her for a ball and leaping through the dunes together. She is keeping me more fit than I’ve ever been.

“Look Eivor, there’s a squirrel high up in the tree,” says Seamus. I look up and I can see him leap from one tree top to the next like a trapeze artist. It looks as if he can fly!

IMG_20160411_153445 ww

“Remember the first time you  saw a squirrel when it was just us boys?” says Seamus. “Your face was priceless!”

I had never seen a squirrel before and our companion sent me a quick message not to chase it. I stood up on my hind legs to watch it run up a tree and onto one of its highest branches. He was so quick and nimble!

“We never chase wild life,” says Seamus. “When we are walking free in nature we have to respect nature. This forest belongs to the squirrels, the deer, the birds, the pine martens, wild cats and all other wild creatures. We leave them in peace and leave nothing but our paw prints here.”

“I love exploring,” says Pearl. “There’s so much to see. I love watching the osprey catch a fish and the eagles soar overhead. We do not meet many people or dogs here. The humans we meet when we are hiking are in a good place within themselves and I never have to bark at them.”

A female hiker walks down the hill towards us with a big smile on her face. Pearl’s ears go up, she runs towards the stream and I follow her. Our companion clicks her tongue. We slam on our brakes, spin around and run straight back to her.

“Wow, they really listen,” says the woman. “Are they easy to train?” Seamus goes to lie down on the grass anticipating a long conversation. “Very easy,” says our companion.

I walk over to the woman and she bends down to stroke me. “They’re very gentle aren’t they?” she says. I put my paw on her knee and let the love flow from my heart to hers.

“I think dogs were put on this earth to make us happy,” she says.

I look deep into her eyes. I think we were all put on this earth to make each other happy.

Much love to you all,

Eivor.
